I receive emails and phone calls every day asking for help with reducing anxiety. Most people state, “MY ANXIETY (notice the ‘MY,’ which means it is now part of my identity), is out of control.”
With so much fear being fed into our futures from our society these days, we live way too far ahead. Yes, it’s great to plan for our future, positively, but the majority of people now tend to focus on and worry about everything, wanting to control everything. These events haven’t happened yet, so our brains become exhausted, trying to find solutions to all those worries, about things that haven’t even happened yet and, therefore, are not in our control. This detaches us from the present moment, creating a perpetual state of fear and anticipation. Let’s face it, what are we really ever in control of? Only our thoughts.
The brain likes to know what is going to happen, and when it doesn’t know, it starts filling in the gaps, sometimes with ideas and thoughts that are not very useful. This creates huge amounts of anxiety, and we become mentally exhausted. Training your brain daily with HappyMe is a great way to start setting those good habits.
That’s the reason I wrote our app, to help you to learn how to set good habits daily, deep within your neural pathways, to reduce negative feelings and, in turn, that feeling of anxiety.
Understanding Anxiety
HappyMe helps you understand anxiety while carrying out daily tasks. Why not listen to the lessons in HappyMe that teach you about how we work as humans, our brain wave states, changing our focus, biochemistry, and the effects these have on our minds and bodies? Our daily tasks help you create great new habits and grow your self-worth and trust in who you are. You can follow our Anxiety Pathway today.
Understanding Our Brain Wave States is important as a human being. Our brain operates through a symphony of electrical impulses. These waves oscillate at different frequencies, each associated with distinct states of mind from Delta (0.5-4 Hz) deep sleep to Gamma (30-100 Hz) Fight or flight.
When we experience anxiety, our brain is predominantly in a high-beta, low-gamma state (35Hz plus). This heightened activity can lead to a cascade of physiological responses, involving adrenaline, cortisol, and oxygen being fed into the body. Anxiety triggers our body's fight-or-flight response, an evolutionary mechanism designed for survival. This response involves:
Adrenaline: This hormone prepares the body for immediate action, increasing heart rate and blood flow to muscles. This can make us feel sick and shaky. A feeling of not being in control.
Cortisol: Known as the stress hormone, cortisol regulates metabolism, reduces inflammation, and controls blood sugar levels. This can give us brain fog, numb and tingly feelings.
Oxygen: Rapid breathing during anxiety can lead to hyperventilation, altering the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood, causing dizziness and shortness of breath.
These responses equip us with "superhero strengths" for short bursts of time, heightening the senses, increasing our strength, and enabling us to move extremely quickly and think on our feet, which is great when you need to save yourself or someone else’s life. However, when sustained over long period of time, or when this happens at work on in a social setting, it can wreak havoc on our physical and mental health, leading to chronic anxiety and panic attacks and in turn can have a detrimental effect on our heart.
Managing Panic Attacks with HappyMe app – Follow our Anxiety Pathway
Panic attacks are intense episodes of fear and physical symptoms that peak within seconds. They are often linked to ongoing anxiety, where the constant state of high alert overwhelms the body's coping mechanisms and dis-regulates our nervous system. This chronic anxiety can create a feedback loop, where the fear of panic attacks becomes the source of anxiety, potentially becoming a habit.
HappyMe teaches you how to navigate through these times daily which in turn cuts the feedback loop, stopping the habit and creating new good habits in the brain that lead us more towards peace.
Anxiety in Today's World
Anxiety has become widespread, with millions experiencing its effects daily. The fast-paced, uncertain nature of modern life, compounded by financial, family, and work pressures, and unreasonable expectations from ourselves and others, significantly contributes to this rise. We, as a race seem to see success as being super busy and popular. Actually, the opposite is true and the way our bodies and brains are made is proof of that fact. That’s why on HappyMe we teach you how your brain is a computer and how to program your computer to create a successful life for you.
When we embrace the present moment, focus on what we want, trust ourselves, we can significantly reduce our anxiety. Our daily tasks on HappyMe teach us to focus on the here and now, reducing the tendency to dwell on future uncertainties. By grounding ourselves in the present, we can break the cycle of anxiety and regain control over our thoughts and emotions.
