Why I Get My Knickers in a Twist About Water

There’s one really important message I want to share with everyone: Drink more water.

And yet, I find myself getting my knickers in a twist about it almost daily. The conversation usually goes something like this:

Me: “Do you drink lots of water?”
Them: “No, I don’t like water, it’s boring.”
Me: “But… why do you have to like it?”
Them: “Well, why would I do something I don’t like doing?”

And that’s when I feel myself twitch. Because here’s the truth: you’re not going to stay alive as long, or as healthily, as you could if you only ever do what you like doing.

Ok, deep breath. Gratitude list. Calm myself down before I carry on. (I’m only half-joking!)

Not Everything Healthy Feels Easy

The reality is this: there are things we must do to keep our bodies healthy. And no, you’re not always going to enjoy them.

Getting up at 6am in winter to meditate.
Taking cold showers.
Saying no to the doughnut or cream cake.
Exercising when you’d rather watch Netflix.
But these habits matter. Our body is our home for life, we owe it care if we want to live with strength, energy, and agility.

Of course, balance is key. I believe in the 80/20 rule:

80% of the time: Eat well, exercise, hydrate, track your habits on HappyMe, and keep your avatar strong and happy.
20% of the time: Let your hair down. Chocolate, bubbles, whatever your guilty pleasure may be.
It’s not about perfection, it’s about consistency.

Make Water Enjoyable

Now, let’s tackle the big excuse: “But water is boring!”

Here’s the trick: make it taste fresh and natural with small additions.

Morning (first 500ml): Add lemon pieces or a squeeze of fresh juice. It clears out the stomach residue from overnight.
Pre-lunch (second 500ml): Add cucumber for a refreshing boost and to balance sodium levels.
Afternoon (third 500ml): Add ginger to soothe digestion.
Optional extras: Strawberries, orange, raspberries, just enough for flavour. (Go light, too much fruit adds sugar, which defeats the purpose.)
Aim for 2 litres daily. Your body will thank you. And yes, you’ll be running to the loo more often, but that’s a good thing! Your blood needs water to circulate properly. That’s not “boring”, that’s life-saving.

Hydration Is Self-Love

At its core, drinking water is about self-love.

It’s not punishment. It’s not nagging. It’s you choosing to treat your body kindly, so it can carry you through life with vitality.

Even when I go out with friends, we make sure to drink a glass of water between alcoholic drinks. It keeps us hydrated, helps our liver, and prevents us from feeling dreadful the next morning.

Little rituals like this make a big difference.

Final Thoughts

So yes, I might sound bossy about water. But it’s only because it matters so much.

In HappyMe, we dive into the science of hydration and the many benefits it brings, but I’ll leave you with this simple truth: your body loves water, even if you don’t “like” it.

Drink it your way. Infuse it. Chill it. Sip it slowly. But drink it you must.

Because staying hydrated is one of the simplest, most powerful ways to feel better, live longer, and love yourself more.

I trust you to make the right choice. Track your water in HappyMe, collect your points, and keep your body smiling.

With love,
Mell X
