Why I Love This Task So Much

I am currently on holiday. The sun is shining, the hotel is beautiful, and I’m here with my hubby Mick. You’d think: Why on earth would I need to track my mood? I’m away, grateful for this time and space, and surely that means happiness is guaranteed.

But here’s the truth: this is exactly why I love this Daily Task so much. It shows me, in real time, how quickly things can shift, how fragile our moods can be, and how powerful it is to pause, reflect, and reset.

The Morning Starts Bright

I wake at 7.30, step onto the balcony, and see the sea. (I’m a Pisces, so that view makes my soul sing.) The birds are chirping, the light is golden, and I’m full of joy. Happy, happy, happy. I open HappyMe, track my mood, and confirm my smiley face.

Everything feels perfect.

A Small Trigger, A Big Shift

But then… life happens.

Mick forgets his wallet with the room key. We have to go to reception, where a conference is kicking off, and suddenly the lobby is swarming with delegates. The queue drags. The stress builds. By the time we finally sit for breakfast, the place is packed. I’m rushed, flustered, and end up with indigestion.

Just like that, my mood has flipped.

The Power of Mood Tracking

At the pool, I open HappyMe again. My body feels tense, my mind is racing. I log it: grumpy face.

And here’s where the magic happens.

By simply tracking how I feel, I get the awareness I need. I do my gratitude list, repeat affirmations, breathe, sit in silence. Ten minutes later, I’ve shifted. The stress fades. I’m back to calm, happy, holiday mode.

Without mood tracking, that low energy could have taken over my entire day. I could have blamed Mick, snapped at staff, or carried resentment long into the evening. Instead, I caught it early and changed course.

Why This Matters

Mood tracking is more than clicking an icon, it’s self-awareness in action.

When we’re not present, our thoughts (the language of the mind) quickly spiral into feelings and emotions (the language of the body). Then we react, often lashing out at those we love most, and feel guilty later.

HappyMe interrupts that cycle. It nudges us back into the moment, back into choice.

Spotting the Patterns

Another hidden gift of mood tracking is history. Over time, you begin to notice patterns:

Does your mood dip after being with certain people?
Does work stress show up every Wednesday before that team meeting?
Do you crash at night because of mental exhaustion, not physical?
These insights spark powerful questions:

Does this person deserve so much space in my life?
Am I in the right role, or do I need new skills to feel more confident?
What boundaries or changes will protect my energy?
Awareness leads to choice, and choice leads to change.

Protecting Your Energy

It’s also about recognising what belongs to you and what doesn’t.

A client once told me: “My friend lost her Dad. She’s devastated. I feel like it’s my job to be sad with her until she’s better.” But here’s the thing, mirroring her sadness won’t actually help her heal. Holding your own energy, your own stability, is far more supportive.

Mood tracking helps you notice when you’re taking on emotions that aren’t yours and reminds you to protect your wellbeing.

Final Thoughts

We are what we think we are. Our thoughts, feelings, and actions create our reality.

So isn’t it vital to notice, accept, and shift your mood back to positive as quickly as possible? The sooner you realign, the more present, joyful, and resilient you become.

That’s why I love this task so much. Not just on tough workdays, but even here, in the sunshine, on holiday. Because life still happens. And HappyMe makes sure happiness doesn’t just depend on circumstances—it depends on choice.

Be brave. Be aware. Make the change.
You’ll thank yourself for it.

With love,
